WIN £100!!!

WIN £100!!!

Thought that might get your attention;)

Ok, we are a debating society after all, and to get your hands on some cash, all you have to do is argue for it…

1. Leeds Intra-Varsity Competition 2006
This is being held all day (and social in evening) on Saturday, December 2nd, in the Parkinson Building. Registration is between 10am - 11am.

The compeition has three rounds, semis, then break to final, and is open to all Leeds students. It takes the form of any national IV on the circuit, so its not only a great chance to get involved, win stuff and have fun (sorting food and drinks for social afterwards at mo;)), but also to have a run through of an IV format in a familiar environment before going to national competitions at other unis.

Entry costs are £6 per team/£3 per person. You can find a partner to enter with or we can find a partner for you.

To enter, or for further info, please email Felicity on his5fhd@leeds.ac.uk, or come along to our Thursday meeting on Thursday November 30th (see below).

If you really can’t make any of the above and don’t have access to a computer, you can text me on 07921 172 019.

It is also possible to enter on the day itself, but to help our orgainisation, it would be great if you could let Flcik or I know beforehand.

Prizes available for:
Winning Team
Best Speaker in Final
Highest Team on Tab
Highest Speaker on Tab
Best Novice Speaker
Best English Second Language Speaker

2. Last Semester 1 Thursday Meeting
Please note that Thursday meetings are the main point of call for announcements and entering things such as our IntraVarsity Competition. You can also ask about IVs, and address any questions or queries you may have.

8PM, PARKINSON BUILDING, THURDSDAY 30TH NOVEMBER
The last chance to practice before the IntraVarsity Competiton. I think Jim will be going over Proposition and/or Opposition strategies, essential for any competition.

Since this is the last meeting of this semester (can’t believe how fast its gone!), our end of term IntraVarsity is going to be our big celebration … Spread the word!

Look forward to seeing you all soon,
:)-Lis-:)

MEETING 7, DEBATING RE-FRESHERS, 8PM, THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 9TH, PARKINSON BUILDING:)

Dear All,

Next Debating Society Meeting:
MEETING 7, DEBATING RE-FRESHERS, 8PM, THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 9TH, PARKINSON BUILDING:)

This message goes out to all members, but predominantly those who are looking to or have recently joined the Society.

As we encourage people to join throughout the year, it is at this point we feel it appropriate to do another introductory session to British Parliamentary Debating so that everyone knows what its all about.

Also, Jim will be condensing all the training we have covered so far into one session, so for those of you who are only just joining, or coming sparodically, its a chance to get up to date, and no one feels left behind. Regular members, see this as a chance to fine tune your skills.

Some of you have asked whether it is ok to come watch at first. Whilst we won’t hold a gun to your head to make you speak or anything (we’re not that bad:p…), we do split off into small groups of 8 and encourage everyone to get have their say… That is what it’s all about, after all;)

On that note, well done to all our teams for the Newcastle and Durham IVs this weekend. Ground has definitely been layed for more progress and IV participation, so any of you who want to get involved in the National stuff, there is plenty of time and opportunity, so please come along on Thursday, as we will be announcing information regarding the upcomg Mace and Birmingham IVs.

On a personal note, big up to my fab new debating partner, James;) Hopefully, this weekend has laid the foundation of us being able to kick more ass before the sunny shores of Australia take you back:p

Furthermore, to enable you to get to know us more, we are having a social afterwards;)

Hope to see you all on Thursday:)
