DEBATING SOC MEETING 1, 8PM, THURSDAY FEBRUARY 1ST, PARKINSON BUILDING:)

Hey Everyone,

Huge welcome to all new members and welcome back to existing members;)

Our first meeting of the semester will be at 8PM, THURSDAY FEBRUARY 1ST, PARKINSON BUILDING.

We will be looking to do an introduction to Debating for all new members, and looking to work on content for improving skills of existing members.

Basically, whatever your level of debating, please do come along. Although we encourage everyone to speak, you can come to watch in your first few weeks, and bear in mind, whenever we speak, we always divide into smaller groups for people to feel more comfortable and receive better feedback. It is never too late to get involved, especially for existing or new members looking to go to national competitions. As usual, we will be on hand to answer any questions.

As an example for the great opportunities the Society can offer, we are looking to send teams off to the European Championships in Turkey this summer. If you fancy a free trip, watch this space!

Our Treasurer, Zaynab, will not be present at our meeting this week, as she will be off to Germany for the IUB Open Competition with our former Leeds President, Keir. We wish both of them the very best of luck - go Team Monsters Inc.! (Don’t ask… Zaynab is mad…)

Also, a big well done to all our teams who participated in the Trinity IV in Dublin this weekend!:D Minus an ‘incident’ with crazy Belgians at the hostel, the weekend was a great success - I will post results up in the Forum as soon as they release them their tab.

In addition to this, a personal thanks to my partner, Adam, who excelled during the tournament and during the course of this year. Here’s wishing you and myself the very best of luck for Strathclyde and Edinburgh Competitions this weekend!

And to members new to national debating, Adam began debating just four months ago, so no worrying or being scared about getting involved - you too could be wasting your life on debating and getting free trips round the country very soon!!!

That’s about it for now, as usual, just email me with any questions.

Hope to see you all on Thursday!

Lisi,
Debating Soc Pres:)
